July 15, 2016. Pembroke, MA – Revenue Solutions, Inc. (RSI), a company that specializes in providing revenue and compliance management products and services to Federal, State and Municipal government revenue, labor and child support agencies, is pleased to announce the implementation of its Revenue Premier® solution for the Cook County, IL Hotel Accommodations Tax.
This milestone is part of an Integrated Tax System (ITS) RSI is providing to the Cook County Department of Revenue (DOR). In October of 2015, DOR entered into an agreement with RSI for a Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) ITS using Revenue Premier to provide a full suite of processing and administration functionality for the County’s home rule taxes.
The ITS project is part of the County’s overall technology modernization strategy to make it simpler/easier to live in and do business with Cook County, as well as a critical piece of its objective to realize significant productivity gains and real revenue improvement.
Within six months of the Board of Commissioners passing a new 1% tax on hotel stays, the RSI team established the necessary technical infrastructure, designed, configured and implemented the new tax type for a July 1, 2016 roll-out. Features of the release include:
- Registration of hotel taxpayers
- Processing hotel tax returns and payments
- Issuance of delinquency and deficiency notices
- An interface with Cook County’s cashiering system
DOR has seen immediate benefits from the implementation of Revenue Premier for this new tax type with improved accuracy of registrations, the availability of line level return data and the ability to easily identify routine return issues such as incorrect taxpayer calculations and missing information. These immediate benefits have led to improved customer service as taxpayers can be alerted to potential problems with their submissions and avoid incurring penalties and interest.
Work has already begun on configurations for the next release of five more tax types and more functionality in January 2017.
